about white Lotus Yoga
Background, beliefs and values
Hello, my name is Nina Healy, founder of White Lotus Yoga and Pilates, and teacher of Yoga, Pilates, Prenatal Yoga and Mum and Baby (Postnatal) Yoga.
I am passionate about creating classes that offer adaptions, progressions and challenges to suit each individual. I love to encourage people to get onto the mat and to keep returning to gain a sense of awareness and strength in both the body and mind. Creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where each individual hopefully leaves my class feeling better than when they arrive.
My own Yoga and Pilates journey has been hugely influential in my style of teaching. I first started practicing Pilates when I was backpacking in Australia in 2000, loving the precise, controlled movement and the strength and stability that it creates in the body. It’s ability to create long, lean muscles in a low impact and controlled way.
My yoga journey started a couple of years later around 2003, initially I fell in love with the strength and flexibility that yoga brings, however over the years, my reasons for yoga have evolved, it has supported me through pregnancy and has helped keep me sane with two small children in tow. Whilst I still love the physical side of the practice, it is the total feel good factor that yoga has on my mind and body that keeps me going, the ability that yoga has to improve my mood, sane me happy and feel a little more relaxed.
The constant student, I am always looking for ways to improve my own strength, flexibility and balance. To learn, grow and develop my knowledge and to share that knowledge with others. I learnt a long time ago that the goal of Yoga and Pilates is not to compare myself to others but to practice for me and for my own wellbeing, not for the way that a pose or exercise looks but for building strength, mobility and flexibility and for the benefits that those qualities have not only on the mat but in daily life. It is about how my body and mind feels, the joy of noticing small improvements and over time noticing that poses that once were challenging feel easier and more attainable.
I truly believe that yoga and Pilates should be for all, keeping our bodies moving and our minds calm, is vital to our long term health and happiness and for me yoga and Pilates are the perfect way to achieve both.
